Supporting Mental Health Related Issues

Though 12% face depression and 8% deal with anxiety, help often feels far away. Together, we can make care accessible, compassionate, and free of stigma.

Reconciliation and community healing

In 1994, Rwanda faced one of the most devastating genocides in history, with over one million lives lost in just 100 days.

Empowering refugees in the region

Migration is an ancient yet pressing global challenge, with over 250 million people living outside their countries of origin.

A Cup for Humanity’s Building a Community Where Every Mind Feels Supported

Mental illness is not weakness — it’s part of being human. But stigma still keeps many silent. When we speak with empathy instead of judgment, we open doors to healing, not shame. True healing happens when families, friends, and neighbors care for one another — mind, heart, and soul.

Mental health challenges affect a significant portion of Rwanda’s population. Around 12% of people experience major depression, and 8% face panic disorders. Among survivors of the 1994 Genocide, rates are much higher, with 35% experiencing depression and 28% struggling with PTSD.

• Trauma Healing: Providing trauma healing is a key activity to support survivors and foster community well-being.
• Women’s Empowerment: ACfH engages in women’s empowerment initiatives as part of its efforts to restore hope and dignity.
